Attaching Email to a Calendar event

Does anybody know how to simply (I stress simply) attach an email to an existing Calendar event. The drag and drop doesn't seem to work - I just get some url style ref in the notes section of the calendar entry which when click it takes me to safari and says page unknown. Please don't tell me how to create a calendar entry from an email - this I can do. I want to attach an email to an existing calendar entry. This has been driving me nuts for years. It is such a basic thing to be able to do.

Drag the email to the Desktop creating a .eml file. Then in Calendar create an event and click on the Add attachment section. Navigate to the Desktop, select the email and add it to the event. It's there as an attachment. You can delete the email file on the Desktop as it's no longer needed. When you double click on the attachment in the event the email in Mail opens.

I think this is nuts that they haven't figured it out. I get an email with important information that would be relevant for a follow up meeting. I want to add the email (in full) to the meeting invitation for context. There is no date on the email to suggest a calendar invitation. I would like to just pull down the menu and "Copy" the email into a calendar event. Or like Outlook reply with calendar event... automatically includes the email content in the meeting invitation... So frustrating...

I have actually found a relatively easy workaround. If you drag the email from your email box into calendar, at a specific time slot, it will create a calendar entry with the subject of the email as title. Not as pretty as linking the entry but workable. I guess Apple has just stopped prioritising appearance....

yes, this is a major loss since it used to work in previous version of OSX where one could just drag an email to the calendar entry to link both... No idea why apple has removed it since it made the integration between apple mail and apple calendar so powerful. if anyone finds a simple work around I would love to read about it.
