Wireless Diagnostics doesn't open - 2012 MacBook Pro Unibody

I'm playing with an old 2012 MacBook Pro running macOS 10.15.7 and it suddenly stopped connecting to my wifi network, which is working on my other devices. I tried to run the Wireless Diagnostics tool/app, both by inputting the name into Spotlight Search and by holding the Option key while clicking on the wifi icon in the menu bar but in both cases, as soon as the app appears to begin to open, it immediately shuts down.

I think I may need a new wifi card, but would like to use Wireless Diagnostics to confirm, if that would be possible. Wifi also doesn't work when I start this MacBook in "Safe Mode" nor will it work when I start this MacBook from an external boot drive with macOS 10.15. Doesn't Wireless Diagnostics work if there is no wireless connection, or is there some other reason for this app not loading? (It works okay when I open it on my 2017 iMac with macOS 13.4.1)

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Hi there,

I am facing the same issue with the Macbook Pro 13 Mid 2012, it started as an intermittent problem, and now the WiFi just went totally off. Where you able to solve the problem after replacing the WiFi module? (I am now using and external USB WiFi module, but the speed is noticeable slower)

Thanks for your feedback.

Thanks for the reply!

I followed the link you provided and then followed the instructions for using Apple Diagnostics on an Intel Mac but, instead of seeing a progress bar, the window showed a globe with something about "recovery" before it was almost immediately replaced by a black window saying, "Error: 0x8000000000000003, Cannot Load 'EFI/Drivers/TestSupport.efi' Status: 0x00000003" (see attached photo - I didn't think screen capture would work on my MacBook while that message was displayed) I then had to force shut down my MacBook. Fortunately, when I restarted it, it seemed to be okay, but the WiFi is still not working (but Bluetooth appears to be working.)

Thanks, again!
