Bug - extremely slow wifi. M2 MBP.

I have a new M2 Macbook Pro. Running the latest 13.3 Ventura OS.

Wifi speeds are absolutely dreadful - 10x slower than they should be.

Seems to me an issue with ventura or the M2 i guess. As it sits next to my PC workstation which receives the expected wifi speeds. Restarting, updating etc. all done to no avail. Wired connections are not a possibility unfortunately.

Any ideas? Its got me tearing my hair out. Not good after spending 5K on a new mac.

Thannks for the reply.

The fault does seem to lie with the wifi channel selection. The MBP does not 'see' the 5ghz channel at all, it's just using the 2.4.

If I turn off te 2.4 connection to force it to use 5ghz - then the wifi is dead.

Prefs are reset everywhere. But I'm not sure where to go with this under OSX13.3.

I can try randomly assigning channels for the 5ghz and see if the MBP picks it uo. But the apple advice page says stuck with auto-selection... Any ideas

I believe the 2.4Ghz connection is what is causing you the trouble. What router are you using? Do you have 2 separate networks set up with one using 2.4Ghz and the other using 5Ghz? Can you force the router to use 5Ghz instead of both? If you have 2 networks, are they named the same?

The 2.4 Ghz band is dreadful for wifi interference caused by wireless phones, baby monitors, microwaves or even other devices connected to a nearby channel.

If safe mode makes no difference and no extensions installed in Safari, then I would look into WiFi interference. Check the channel number and if the connection is 2.4Ghz or 5Ghz by holding the Option key and clicking the Wifi icon in the menu bar. What does it say under "Channel".

Your PC may be connected to a wireless channel that is not experiencing the interference. The higher the channel number, the faster the speed, but at a shorter distance. There is a balance between speed and distance as well as interference that the router uses to determine what channel to assign to a device.

You can run the Wireless Diagnostics by using the Option Key Wifi trick and see what it tells you. After running, it will tell you if it found anything and give you an option to monitor the wifi. I have not found any benefit in monitoring the wifi, but the initial results will tell you if you are connected to a congested channel.
