How to output 120 hertz to an external monitor

I can't display a 120 hertz picture via hdmi, although the cable and monitor support it, and the laptop shows only 60 hertz.I have a MacBook Pro 14 M1 Pro, and a samsung odyssey G7 monitor. I tried to set different resolutions for the screen, but still

Macbook Pro M1 Pro or Max HDMI is only 2.0 version it mean that it can not output 4k 120hz signal, it can only output 4K 60hz even if your cable or monitor support 4k 120hz

There is one line about "ProMotion technology for adaptive refresh rates up to 120Hz." I think it might refer to the refresh rate for the laptop's built-in screen, not to the refresh rate for external monitors.
