iPad Pro requires restart to charge since updating to iPadOS 16.5

iPad Pro 2021 - 12.9-inch iPad Pro Wi‑Fi 1 TB (5th Generation), Wi-Fi 1TB M1 chip - requires restart to charge since updating to iPadOS 16.5 - I’ve used different Apple cables all with same result. The iPad Pro initially looks like it is charging but immediately stops - the fix is to restart the iPad. Then charging works. This started after updating to iPadOS 16.5. The recent iPad OS 16.5.1 did not fix the issue.

some times the charging green symbol will click on and off like strobe light along with the charge chime making a sound off and on - while symbol goes from green “charging” to white “not charging” - literally like someone flicking light switch off and on repeatedly and quickly.

Restarting the iPad corrects this issue. But seems to be a daily event - need to do it every night I charge. The charging port seems clean. I’ve only used Apple cables and adapters and have used various cables and outlet adapters with the same result.

I've got the same issue. I did a full Erase and Restore and that did not solve. Tried multiple adapters and cables as well. Seems like some soft of a bug.

If the problem persists after performing the restart, it may be necessary to reset your iPad settings. While this reset will not cause any loss of data, as a precaution, it is always wise to ensure that you have a current iCloud or iTunes backup before performing the reset:

When you are happy to proceed, you can perform the reset from iPad settings:

Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPad > Reset > Reset All Settings

If the problem still doesn’t clear, the next step is to fully reset the iPad - which will erase all data and settings - and then restore your data from your backup:

Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPad > Erase All Content & Settings

Instead of resetting all settings or worse, erasing all content and settings, I wanted to try something less invasive first.

Besides multiple restarts but then I tried the Forced Hard Restart

FORCE RESTART - HOW TO

1. Press and quickly release the Volume Up button

2. Immediately you’ve done that, you should press and quickly release the Volume Down button

3. You must then immediately press and hold the Side button, until the display shuts down, the device restarts and the Apple logo appears.

I don't think this fully helped since the issue continued after.

Then I tried to wipe clean the "3 little dot connectors" for the iPad Pro Magic Keyboard (on both the iPad and on the keyboard) - using a cloth with just a hint of 70% alcohol (not dripping wet).... and reconnected the keyboard. After doing this the issue has not recurred... not sure if it was a coincidence, but it's been a couple of weeks without any issues so far.
