"Drivers" in this context is not a real "Driver" at all, it is simply a package of settings (a "Profile" would be more accurate) that users have accumulated over time that seem to operate the display without the display exploding. Under windows, they are often side-loaded, and sometimes from dubious sources. The Mac does NONE of that from ANY sources.
Instead, the Mac Asks a display Authority. That is the Display itself. It is not an accident that a Mac know the name of every display you connect, without your ever typing it. Your Mac also knows the display capabilities as well, because it got them from the display itself.
The most frequent reason a display can not perform up to its advertised resolution is that the end-to-end data pathway provided is not adequate for ERROR-FREE transmission at the settings requested. Provided you can supply a data pathway that is adequate, these displays self-configure and work great.
