Apple TV captions via Airplay

I want to watch a movie online on my Apple TV through Airplay from my iPhone. I also want to view the captions. The captions work on my iPhone without Airplay, but they won’t work on my Apple TV, even though I checked the settings for both devices. And I also made sure they are running on the same iOS.

Airplay iPad to Apple TV I often screen mirror from my iPad to my Apple TV and then play video content in VLC, a message would appear on the iPad to let me know the video is playing on the TV, and the video would play out with audio on the Apple TV. I have just bought a new Apple TV, and have tried to recreate the above, but instead of the video playing out on the Apple TV instead it displays a message advising that "this video is playing on the tv" the same message displayed on the iPad. It is the same if I try and Airplay from my iPhone. Any ideas?

ipad not recognizing TVs on airplay I am trying to cast a photo slideshow from my ipad to my TV. I can successfully do so on my iphone, but when I try to do it on my ipad it doesn't recognize any of our TVs through airplay like my iphone does. Any idea on how to get this to work? I did verify that my Airplay settings on the ipad are already set to "Automatic". The Airplay option shows up on the slideshow, it just doesn't show any options. Thanks!

AirPlay streams use the captions or subtitles as configured on the receiving device, if the selection is available in that stream. Adjust the settings for captions there.
