Samsung Odyssey lc49g95t not functioning when moving to new MBP (m2 2023)

Glorious display, wavering support.

Background:

Previously I had a 2020 Intel MBP, and then a 2022 M1. They both functioned at the native resolution for the display (5120 x 1440). Unfortunately I hit a bunch of road blocks in the process of getting it working (no hubs, switches, etc) and settled on an HDMI -> USB-C direct cable that did the job.

This week I've now upgraded to an M2 on Ventura 13.4, and the monitor's native resolution is not detected. It defaults to 3840 x 1080, with no option for anything above that except 3840 x 2160, which then only uses part of the monitor (and with major visual distortions making text hard to read).

I've dug around and not found any firm solutions on the matter. Some claims to "disable usb over hdmi" in the Monitor setting seem to work for *other* monitors, but there is no setting for that on the Odyssey I'm using. Other's involve changing the refresh rate until you can select the proper resolution. Unfortunately, it seems locked at 60Hz (sometimes 50Hz is available). Another option suggests turning the monitors version of Displayport from 1.0 to 1.4 - since I am not using the Displayport this would have no affect. (Also, it seems my options are Dp 1.4 and Dp 2.0, and it's currently set to 2.0)

There may be a few other options out there - unsure. Today I am purchasing a Dp 1.4 cable 8k to Thunderbolt 4/3 cable. (Stouchi branded that lists compatibility with many Apple devices) I will be evaluating that once it arrives in a few days to determine if proper resolution/refresh rate can be obtained over the Dp. (Note: I was searching for DP 2.0 -> Thunderbolt, but they don't exist as TB4 caps out around ~40gbs where Dp2.0 supports 80)

Posting here for info sharing and in case others have found solutions.

Cheers
