Apple News App: Problems suppressing sports stories...

Ever since the latest iOS update, my news feeds are suddenly overstuffed w/sport stories. As someone who is not into sports at all, I want zero sports showing up in the feed. Spending countless clicks for the past two weeks 'show less' action on sport story after sport story.

Seems like show me less does nothing, or maybe is cross-wired to show me more behind the scenes. Either way it was fine before the iOS update and now my new feed is like ESPN.

How can this get fixed?

Why are there also still no categories such as iOS (there is one for MacOS, but still none for iOS or iPadOS, home kit etc)?

Yesterday, in a 24 hour period on the Reuters channel, with a count of apx. 90 stories and over 40 were sports.

Close to 50% sports, even after swiping/tapping "Suggest Less" of every sports story for over a month.

Suppress is broken. This is an Apple issue, not one for the content provider.

Maybe the original post wasn't being clear.

Part 1: There was never a problem w/sport stories filling the feed...it never happened...no sports...all good. After the update the news feeds are overstuffed w/sports and tweaks or adjustments are helping.

Part 2: After two weeks of continually selecting ••• Suggest Less, no improvements.

----

The link above isn't quite applicable.

• When you like the source, but not the article you only get a suggest less.

• When you go to Following, you get options on sources, but not content within a source.

• To adjust content within a source, you select a post...select ••• and select Suggest More/Less.

• There are no sports channels or sports topics displayed on the Following tab.

No matter what, can't keep the influx of sports from flooding the feed...almost as if the Suggest Less is coded to show you more.

----

On your iPhone

  1. Select the Following tab.
  2. Select Edit in the top of the screen.
  3. Select the Remove button  next to a channel or topic, then select Unfollow.

Tell News what you want to read

  • Want to see similar stories in Today like the one that you're currently reading? As you read a story, select Suggest More Like This .
  • You can also tell the News app the types of stories that you don't like so that they don't appear as often in Today. In a story, select Suggest Less Like This .

  • L1 Support was not helpful.
  • L2 Support requested deleting and reinstalling the News application. Still spending countless time swiping 'suggest les' ~ an action that worked well before 16.5 update.
  • Updates have been shared through the L2 support ticket on3/23/23 and awaiting response and next steps.
