problem with macOS Big Sur update - help!

Hello, I am not a tech person so any help at a kindergarten level is much appreciated! ;-)

My iMac is a mid 2015 model. I recently received a software update alert. I went through the normal steps and I'm now running macOS version 11.7.7. After the update, I continued to see the update alert. When I click on the software update, it starts "checking for updates" but never finishes. It has been checking for updates for over an hour now.

Does anyone know how to fix this problem? I've attached a couple screenshots.

It is possible the Update appearing is for Safari 15.6.1.

If the Software Update Applet in System Preferences keeping searching and not finding the update

1 - Restart in Safe Mode. This will perform a Disk Repair, clear cache files and only load Apple Software, extensions and fonts. The boot up will be slow and can take some time - Normal.

2 - Safe Mode will also eliminate Third Party Software, extensions and drivers from loading. It will only load the Minimum amount of Core Apple Processes to allow the the computer to function at a reduced Level of Performance

3 - Run the Software Update Applet again while in this mode

4 - Sometimes a Safe Boot followed by a Normal Boot will just put things right.

I did update to 2014 Mac book pro to macOS 11.7.10 have had nothing but problems. Opening anything is delayed response sometimes by at least minute sometimes it doesn’t respond at all. I had no issues prior to update. If I could remove it I would. Maybe not issue with new Mac but older one seems to be an issue
