iMessage notifications not showing contact names on Mac.

To be very clear, In the iMessage application on my mac, all of the contact and group chat names appear. However, when I get a notification in the top right of my screen, it only shows the associated phone number, not the contact name. I have tried re syncing my contacts in iCloud to no avail. This problem only started happening in the past few days. Thank you for any help.
