I see no badge on messages icon after receiving new messages suddenly after never having this problem before. Looked at all settings and are all correct.
Tried resetting the settings off and on a rebooting in between. No
luck. Can anyone help?

Well, somehow I resolved this. I turned off badges in settings and reboot, and left the phone with badges off overnight, then turned badges back on and it worked. Weird.

I have an iPhone 8, and the icon is the built-in iMessage App that comes with iPhones.
You may get better and prompt responses if you may kindly provide the iPhone Model that you have and the iOS version if it is known to you and re-post.

preferences. For me my phone was somehow permanently on focus or do not disturb of one kind or another and the setup for everything was to reject all noise from every app and person…
This is an old thread but I was only getting iMessage notifications but no “green” messages. I had turned off allow notifications from unknown senders (Message -> notifications -> custom notifications). I turned this back on and the text messages (green) started showing the alert on the badge.
IPhone 14 with IOS 16.5
Badge notifications were all working (eg Facebook Twitter Mail and so on) and then overnight stopped. I have not changed any setting and have checked that notifications are on for all affected apps.
Have completed a shut down and restart but no change.
