My messages app shows 9 unread messages consistently in the little red circle, but there are no unread messages. How do I clear this? I receive my messages on an iPhone, two iPads, three MacBook Pros, and an iMac, and one of my Pros will not clear the little red circle to zero no matter what I try. Any suggestions?

I tried this but it does not seem to work. My iPhone and iPad show no unread Messages and Siri on my MacBook Pro tells me I have no unread messages, but there is still the red dot with the number 1 on the Messages icon on the MacBook Pro.
The suggestion, by ebeast worked for me too. When Siri read them, it became clear that these were spam messages that were tagged by my android phone when I originally got them. When I switched to my new iPhone, they didn’t appear in my list of messages, but somehow still counted as unread messages. So glad to have that solved!
I have had unread text messages show up on the Apple Watch face and there are NO unread messages on my iPhone. The fix that works for me is to reboot the Apple Watch. It comes back up with zero (0) unread messages.

Hi, use siri to read all unread messages. It definitely works.
I believe the red dot can be ANY notification, not just messages.
