Touch ID on M2 MacBook Air doesn’t work

I purchased a MacBook Air (M2) in February. From the day I received it, Touch ID would work for awhile, then “forget” my fingerprint. I spoke with Apple Support, to no avail. At their suggestion, I sent it for repair. It came back with the same problem. At Apple’s suggestion, I took it to a local authorized service center, again to no avail. The service tech told me that touch ID didn’t work too well with the prints of older people (I’m one of those!). But touch ID on my iPad works fine. Is this a recognized problem? What will Apple do to correct? What can I do to avoid having to enter my passcode every time I need to enter a password? This is ridiculous! Any suggestions? Help!

MacBook Air, macOS 13.3
