Can Touch ID be diabled on Mac Air M

I would like setting up my new Macbook Air M2 and iPad (new one in Sept.) to make them as easy as possible to turn on and get going.

I think set up will require my Apple account passcode for Itunes etc. to for first set up.

I think I must create a sign on code (text/numbers) for that particular laptop. (This will be different than my Apple account passcode). Can I use the same ID code for the Mac Air M2 for my Ipad?

But what about the fingerprint Touch ID? Can I disable it, so I do not have to use it to turn on and access my MacBook/iPad? I am only finding articles on how to use it, not turn it off, or is there an option in set up to not activate/use it at all? Thanks!

Currently, I boot my devices, type in a code (Not account code) and I'm in. Can I do this with these newer products or must I use the fingerprint scan device?

You should use the same AppleID account for both your Mac and your iPad (and iPhone if you have one). Each device can be configured with a different Passcode; some Users choose to set the same Passcode, others prefer to use differing Passcodes.

For iOS/iPadOD devices, a passcode is essential; if a Passcode is not set, much of the advanced functionality simply won’t work. The Passcode secures the Secure Enclave (this being the iPad security chip), within which the system encryption keys are stored. No Passcode = No encryption keys.

TouchID os entirely optional. If not configured, you can simply use the device Passcode - but perhaps consider that using TouchID actually simplifies use of the iPad.

Whatever you choose to do, perhaps consider review of the iPad User Guide - this being a rich (and frequently overlooked) source of information. The Guide is available both online using a web browser (such as Safari), or as an Apple Books download:

The Tips App, installed by default on all new models of iPad, provides a brief introduction - and leads you to the User Guide. In case you missed it, here is a link to the Tips App:
