"Fix for EMOJI fail on MacBook Pro TouchBar: With the newest update to the OS on my MacBook, the emoji icon no longer works in some apps. I can see from reading other questions that this has been a known problem. Has anyone uncovered a fix?"

Troubleshooting Emojis After an Update:
A. Restore from a Time Machine Backup:
Did you back up your Mac prior to installing this update? If so, restore from it, seeing if that fixes this. This is a pure example of why to backup your Mac prior to any major change to your system (update being such a change).  How to Use Time Machine: Create a Time Machine backup of your Mac, so that you can have something to restore your Mac from, should anything go wrong with the reinstall.
B. Report this to Apple:
Do your Part: Inform Apple of your feedback of this issue. Include how you’ve troubleshot this, and your results, thus far. Apple may not get back to you directly, but the more feedback they receive from its users, the more likely they will know what needs to be fixed, and what their customers prefer in updates, and future macOS versions to come.
- Go Here:Â Feedback - macOS - Apple
- Select:Â "Bug Report"Â for the "Feedback Type"
- Select:Â "Software/Firmware Update" for the "Feedback Area"
- Comment:Â that is all occurred after installing an update, and how you have troubleshot this this far. Include the URL of this thread.
- Proceed from there as necessary
