It should show suggestions for playing and then automatically what is playing. The only integration is watch shows what’s playing when I have already set something playing on the pod, even then it’s subject to delays and is pretty unresponsive and has to be selected in the Smart Stack. Hey there,

I don't believe that you can connect your watch directly to your HomePod mini, you can interact with the home pod through the Apple Watch with the "Home" app.

Below, taken from the Apple website, are some instructions that talk through using intercom on Apple Watch as an example of this.
