Hi Tim, by trial and error, I was able to update (after several attempts) by doing the following. Of course, the first thing to do is to make sure everything (iPhone, Mac, etc.) is updated to the latest versions. THEN, I plugged the MagSafe Charger to my MacBook Pro. You will receive a popup asking you if you agree to this device being plugged in. Once you click "agree", wait a bit (>5 minutes). After this, place your iPhone on the charger (that is plugged into the Mac) and let sit. This may take over 30 minutes. This worked for me. The KEY was plugging in the MagSafe Charger to my Mac FIRST, ensuring I saw the popup and agreeing to it, then waiting 5-10 minutes before attaching my iPhone. I tried to update the firmware several times over multiple days, tried attaching my iPhone with/without a case I use from MagBak (that works with MagSafe and stays attached), but the above exact sequence seemed to do the trick.

Thanks for reaching out ilev5723,

It sounds like you're trying to update the firmware version on your MagSafe Battery Pack you use with your iPhone. We can help.

We understand wanting to make sure your devices and accessories are up-to-date. You can check out these steps to see How to use your MagSafe Battery Pack:

Attach and remove your MagSafe Battery Pack

Your MagSafe Battery Pack will magnetically attach to the back of your iPhone. To remove the MagSafe Battery Pack, gently pull it off the back of your device.

If connected to a 20W or higher power source, your MagSafe Battery Pack can charge your iPhone with up to 15W of power.

In order to get 7.5W charging on the go, update your MagSafe Battery Pack to the latest firmware. The firmware update begins automatically after you attach your battery pack to your iPhone. The firmware update can take about one week.

Since the update can take up to a week to complete, you should not get discouraged if you don't see immediate results. That said, if you haven't seen a change after a week, you can connect with Apple directly using either Apple Support or if you're in a region without direct support options, you can also Contact Apple for support and service.

Hope that helps.

Take care.
