Issues with Airpods pro 2 and iPhone XS Max no sound on incoming calls

I updated airpods pro 2 to 5E135 and now the issue with iPhone XS Max is worse. Incoming calls there is no audio inbound or outbound. If I initiate the call all audio is fine. For incoming calls only there is no sound either way. This is worse than before the firmware. Before the firmware, airpods pro 2 were on 5E133 and I could hear the incoming callers but they couldnt hear me, now there is just no audio at all for incoming calls with iPhone XS MAX at latest IOS 16.4.1(a). Is anyone else experencing this with AirPods Pro 2 and iPhone XS Max? Has anyone figured out a fix?

Hello kosh_al,

We know how important your AirPods Pro are. Let's go ahead and reset the AirPods Pro to see if it helps.

  1. "Put your AirPods in their charging case, and close the lid.
  2. Wait 30 seconds.
  3. Open the lid of your charging case, and put your AirPods in your ears.
  4. Go to Settings > Bluetooth. Or go to Settings > [your AirPods].
    • If your AirPods appear there as connected, tap the More Info button  next to your AirPods, tap Forget This Device, then tap again to confirm.
    • If your AirPods don't appear there, continue to the next step.
  1. Put your AirPods in their charging case, and keep the lid open.
  2. Press and hold the setup button on the back of the case for about 15 seconds, until the status light on the front of the case flashes amber, then white.*
  3. AirPods charging cases

  4. Reconnect your AirPods: With your AirPods in their charging case and the lid open, place your AirPods close to your iPhone or iPad. Follow the steps on your device's screen.

AirPods can be associated with one Apple ID. If you want to use AirPods (3rd generation) or AirPods Pro (1st or 2nd generation) that someone else has used, they first need to remove the AirPods from their Apple ID."

I've removed and re-paired the Airpods several times without any change. There are other threads about this same issue, and it is not a pairing issue, and calling support does not correct the issue. I have non-Apple earbuds that work fine with my iPhone XS MAX, so why can't apple get their stuff together and release a better product for the price? The solution at the apple store ( I went there) was to pay $1200 for a new phone I don't need. That's the fix? Really? Unacceptable!

So many people have the same issue and Apple does nothing about it. I have an iPhone Xs Max ios 17.2, and brand new airpods pro 2 USB-C latest firmware for the airpods and the case. Today, I had a phone call with Apple Support for 50 min. No result.

Reading more articles about this issue, a member claimed that when he/she bought an iPhone 13 pro max, he/she stopped having this issue.

I strongly believe it is an issue of the device (iPhone xs models).
