Import .WAV files into Apple Music

The encoder setting only applies to ripping and conversion, It does not have effect on files you add to your library.

Find the WAV file in Finder, right-click it, and choose Open With > Music. What happens?

I assume you were starting with an audio CD? Perhaps it did not rip correctly. Try ripping again with another import format, such as Apple Lossless. Also, try the classic Apple advice about error correction: If the “Use error correction when reading Audio CDs” checkbox isn’t selected, select it. If it’s already selected, deselect it.

I am confronting with the same problem: I try to import in Music .wav files and it doens't work.

I have tried to 'right-click it, and choose Open With > Music' but nothing happens.

Any advice, apart from converting the files from .wav into .mp3?

Doris,

That "Open With" procedure is the most direct way to open an audio file in Music. If the file doesn't open that way, then it is incompatible with Music. The reason could be file corruption, an oddity in the bitrate or sample rate, etc.

Conversion can clean that stuff up, so yes, try converting to MP3. You will need something other than iTunes/Music to do the conversion (since Music can only convert files that have been added to its library).

I was given a CD of original tracks in wav format but when I try to import it into Apple music, nothing at all happens. I can play any of the tracks on my desktop computer by right clicking and selecting 'open with...' so presumably the file format is OK. Any ideas please?

Copy the files from the CD to your computer. Make them read/write (they are likely read only). Import the files, or move them into the Automatically Add to Music folder inside your library's media folder.

Well that's odd. Either they should be added to the library, and moved into the main media folder under ../Unknown Artist/Unknown Album, or moved to a Not Added folder if Music doesn't like them for some reason. Are you sure you are working in the active media folder?

I have tried converting into .mp3 using various apps, but unfortunately the songs are not playable.

I think I will have to redo the copying of the CD into the laptop.
