Ventura 13.3.1 / Time Machine Backup Slow

I recently updated my macOS to Ventura 13.3.1. Every time my computer backs up to an external hard drive, my computer applications freeze. It's affecting Zoom calls, playing web-based audio, video, working in other applications, etc. Is anyone else experiencing this problem? I'm noticing it only with the updated Ventura OS. I haven't had this problem before. I am using a 27-inch, 2017 iMac with 5K Retina display--64GB 2400 MHz DDR4 memory.

What brand, size and type of drive is Time Machine on? If it's a rotational drive is it a 5400 or 7200 rpm model?

How is it connected to your iMac?

How much free space do you have on your boot drive.

How much free space is on the TM drive?

Have you installed and run any "cleaning", "optimizing", "speed-up", anti-virus or VPN apps on your Mac?

Do you have another external drive that you could use to test with a single TM backup to see if it's as slow as your current drive?
