New enabled alert for Fire Alarm and CO Alarm

I don't know. I've not had a chance to test myself. Perhaps a test signal isn't long enough to trigger detection. This is a UK link so presumably it is supposed to be working here: Get alerts for smoke and carbon monoxide detectors – Apple Support (UK).

If you have HomePods scattered around the house like I do, then the one closest to the sound picks it up. I was closer to my left HomePod when I played the test video (posted above) I’ve read that any alarm sound seems to work. Reports of a delivery truck beeping as it backed up set one off. Make sure you enabled it

You can turn Sound Recognition on or off in the Home app. Open the Home app on your iPhone or iPad, tap , tap Home Settings, then tap Safety & Security.

Note: Sound Recognition may detect smoke and carbon monoxide alarm sounds and send you notifications when recognized. Sound Recognition should not be relied upon in circumstances where you may be harmed or injured, or in high-risk or emergency situations. Sound Recognition requires the updated Home architecture.

Others have tested using YouTube videos of smoke alarms. I tested it myself here in Canada and it worked, I was alerted after a few seconds of the alarm sound.

I've got the same thing. I'm in NZ, just made myself deaf by testing for so long, and no notifications on any phones.. If they're not recognising the sound, then there should be a way to 'teach' the alarm noise. Each manufacturer has their own sound, so how does it know them all? Or just by volume, then it should have worked.

(Side note on the vol part - I have two, would be good to train them which the closer one is and the further away, so the notifications are more specific, but getting off track here!)

It didn't seem to work the first time I tried using that video so I toggled everything off and on again, turned my iPhone up to max. and held it about 6 inches away from my HomePod mini. I was just about to give up on it when the alert came up on my phone. Real alarms are loud, so I'm sure they would do the trick.

I played the video on my iPad about mid volume and was about 3 or 4 feet away from a paired gen 2 HomePod. Looks like it will do as expected if you are not home and can be informed there must be fire or CO2. I don’t have cameras but it says you could view the camera and might be able to see smoke.

I should probably do a test on the video again by holding my device near my smoke detector to test distance on which HomePod might alert me, there’s an OG HomePod closest to it in my office

I tested it in my office at work, but I have a camera at home. I went away for two weeks and it was nice just being able to check that all was as it should be at home. I retired an old smoke detector not so long ago. This has reminded me that I should replace it.

yes it’s good to be reminded. I got new smoke detectors with the CO2 a couple of years ago, I think. We replaced the batteries in December. Must be peace of mind to have the camera to check all is in order in your home. I should get some. I love all the Apple safety rescue features.
