Transfer from iPhone 8 to new iPhone 14. SIM will not transfer. Explanation -- SIM in old iPhone does not support eSIM transfer

my new phone will not transfer cellular data. It says my old phone doesn't support esim transfer. Now neither phone works I have done all the transferring, however my Iphone 14 doesn't have a sim card. My old phone does, and it will not allow me to transfer as it says esim is not supported by the iphone 12
