How to backup my photos from iphone to icloud?

My iphone is now connected to icloud

but all my contacts were deleted

and I can’t backup anything from iphone to icloud

icloud question I recently upgraded from an iPhone XR to an iPhone 14. I was using about 28 GB of iCloud storage (of 50 GB total). I successfully restored the data to the new phone (14). When I try to back up the 14 iCloud says I do not have enough space. So I deleted the XR backup from iCloud and backed up the 14. It should have all the same data that was on the XR but it is only taking up 2.6GB now. Backup on the phone says "Your photo library is not included here because it is backed up as part of iCloud Photos." I am concerned because I deleted the XR backup from iCloud. Is all my data/contacts/etc. being backed up from my new phone??

How do I only backup or sync photos, contact, and documents for an iPhone? How do I only backup or sync photos, contacts, and documents for an iPhone? Can I then turn off iCloud Backup and it will still sync? It's a bit confusing.

If you didn’t change any setting with backing up the photos to the iCloud, they automatically backup to the iCloud but check your settings>Apple id>Photos>Sync this iPhone have to be on
