M1 Mac Ventura not working well with Epson V600 scanner using Epson Scan 2 & SilverFast 9

FYI, Ventura also broke high quality printing to photo printers. ColorSync/ICC color management does not work properly with Adobe Lightroom CC. And worse, the new Ventura Print dialog Preset function does not work at all with any brand of printer. Presets will not save the options you pick, such as print quality, paper type, paper source, double-sided printing, etc. It's clear that they had no photographers who do serious printing bet test this OS. I recommend you back up your Mac and reinstall a previous OS that works (like Catalina, Big Sur, Or Monterey) and migrate or install your apps.

Have you tried Image Capture in the Applications folder? Don't believe Epson has updated the Epson Scan software for Ventura. To use Image Capture, you may have to remove the installed Epson software or Silverfast to prevent incompatibility, but give it a shot. The ICA Scanner driver from Epson is all that is needed.

Epson's last Scan 2 software was released in Fall 2021 (a year prior to Ventura) and has not been updated since that time. Yet Epson lists it as supporting Ventura 13.*. Their ICA Scanner driver for Apple's Image Capture was released in Fall 2022, and so were their ScanSmart Core files. In March 2023, they released Epson Easy Photo Scan Utility, all indicated to also be compatible with Ventura 13.*.

There have been continuous posts about operating system compatibility issues with the V600 scanner even before Ventura was released. Even the optional VueScan Professional requires a working Epson V600 driver installation before it will support this scanner. Apple provides Epson with the development tools to improve their scanner software support on Ventura and any compatibility changes introduced by operating system updates should be Epson's proactive responsibility to correct.
