Cannot use command+v to paste text into New Folder dialog

New M1 Mac Mini running OS Ventura, I can't use command+v to paste copied text from Mail into the New Folder dialog (I do this to name the folders) when doing a Save As, in this case in Illustrator. I can right click/control-click to get a contextual menu that includes Paste, but that's a mouse move I'd rather avoid, and command+v worked in earlier OS, I've been doing it for years. Is there something I can turn back on somewhere, that will restore that functionality?

UPDATE: it might be an Illustrator problem, not a Ventura problem, as command+v works in other software. I would delete this question if I could find a way to do so.

I've had the same issue for some time: command-v doesn't work to paste text into dialog boxes, like Save As or naming a file. Happens throughout my Mac (2019 3 GHz with 16 GB memory, Ventura 13.01).

I've brought this up with Mac Tech Support previously, and the tech said they had the same issue, but no idea about its origin or how to resolve it.

btw, It's REALLY aggravating.
