Messages are suddenly deleting on Watch when deleted on iPhone

I’ve just noticed that when I delete a message on my iPhone, it now deletes on my watch. Is this a new update? How else would this start happening?

Messages won't sync between Apple Watch and iPhone. After reading a message on my iPhone (15 Pro Max running latest iOS 17) the messages will still show as unread on my Apple Watch. And after reading messages on my Apple Watch, they still show as unread on my iPhone. Even more frustrating - if I delete a message using my watch (for example the phone is in my pocket or out of reach) it's still on the phone - meaning I need to delete it twice. Why? Apple Watch don't sync deleted SMS/iMessages whit iphone My iPhone and Apple Watch don't sync deleted SMS/iMessages well. When I delete a message on the phone, it does not delete it from the watch, the same happens when I delete it from the watch, then the message is not deleted from the phone. The phone and the watch have the latest software. There is no problem with adding / deleting contacts to the phone book and deleting recent calls.

It depends on the type of message. If it is iMessage, meaning between iOS devices, they delete everywhere. If it is SMS/MMS, meaning to anyone else such as non-iMessage messages, they don't.
