Messages won't sync between Apple Watch and iPhone.

After reading a message on my iPhone (15 Pro Max running latest iOS 17) the messages will still show as unread on my Apple Watch. And after reading messages on my Apple Watch, they still show as unread on my iPhone. Even more frustrating - if I delete a message using my watch (for example the phone is in my pocket or out of reach) it's still on the phone - meaning I need to delete it twice. Why? Anyone else have this issue? Anyone else find a solution?

Hello josephtwelsh,

While messages are received on your Apple Watch and can be read and deleted there, that status does not update to the iPhone. More info about message syncing can be found at Keep your messages up to date with iCloud - Apple Support, but the Apple Watch is not included in this.
