Apple Watch Series 4 - software not updating

I am trying to update the software on my apple watch and keep getting the following message "The watchOS update couldn't be verified because you are not connected to the internet". I am connected to the internet! I have tried turning it off and on, same for my iPhone, unpaired and repaired it, tried to update it without the iPhone etc. Basically, I have tried everything I can locate from various forums but to no avail. Does anyone else have the same problem? Does anyone know if Apple are going to provide a work around? Current version of software I have is 8.5.1. I have a series 4 watch. Any advice is welcome

Hi Micko0706,

The support article Update your Apple Watch covers not only how to update your Apple Watch, but also a section "Need more help with updating?" which offers the following suggestions:

"Try these steps:

  1. Make sure that your Apple Watch is connecting properly to its charger
  2. Restart your Apple Watch.
  3. Restart your paired iPhone.
  4. Try again to update your Apple Watch.

If the update won't start:

  1. Open the Apple Watch app on your iPhone.
  2. Tap General > Software Update.
  3. Delete the update file.
  4. Try again to update your Apple Watch.

Learn what to do if you see 'Cannot Install Update' when updating Apple Watch or if your Apple Watch says you need more available storage to install a watchOS update."

Ensure your paired iPhone is running the latest software, test on both the Apple Watch and from the iPhone, and try on different networks if the behavior persists. If you're using a beta version of software that profile will need to be removed to install the update.

Regards.
