Mail stuck in Outbox - Apple Mail on iPad

I tried to send a message with a very large attachment from my iPad. I immediately received an error message saying the file was too big. Fair enough. But now I can’t get it out of my Outbox. If I delete it, it will disappear for a short time, but then reappear. Any ideas on how to fix? At this point I just want to permanently delete the message.

Another issue I think is related, at the bottom of my message list, it says I have 16 unsent messages (see photo attached). Any idea what this is referring to and how to get rid of this notification?

Hi there Jimmy5,

If you are having an issue with an outgoing email, let's first follow the 'Check the Outbox for unsent email' section here to try to remove the email from your Outbox: If you can’t send email on your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support

Check and see if this stuck outgoing message can be deleted from the email provider's website in a web browser like Safari as well.

If this continues after checking the website and removing the message from your Outbox, then these steps from that article can also alleviate unexpected behavior like this:

Remove your email account and set it up again
1. On your computer, sign in to your email provider’s website. Make sure that all of your email is there or make sure that your email is saved somewhere other than on your iOS or iPadOS device.
2. On your device, go to Settings > Mail, then tap Accounts.
3. Tap the email account that you want to remove.
4. Tap Delete Account.
5. Add your account again.

We hope that helps!
