Blurred Screen with a search button at the bottom

I am having an issue when while I am swiping on my phone the screen will blur leaving an unusable search bar at the bottom of the screen.

I have seen multiple other people with this issue dating as far back as 3 months ago. My iPhone is up to date at 16.3.1 and I get this problem almost every other day now. I am not trying to open any apps or utilizing any features when this occurs, I am simply swiping on my screen through trying to get to a desired app when this occurs. The odd thing is that even though the apps are blurred, the apps and it's functions are still usable so long as you remember where each app is and each app runs clear and properly.

while shutting down the phone usually resolves this issue it seems a little odd that his has been going on for 3+ months now with no true resolution stated other than restarting your device.

You are on the right track however the search button is not usable. If I tap on it nothing pops up, no type cursor, no keyboard no nothing. Just the search bar at the bottom that is unusable, though everything else in the back ground remains blurred and "usable" to an extent that if I remember where all of my apps are I can tap on them and they work normally. However when I close that app the background remains blurred with the unusable search button at the bottom. Exactly how it looks in the screenshot I attached.

So far the only fix is restarting the iPhone. This is an intermittent and inadvertent issue, I had no intention of using the search bar when this has occurred, never have really needed to use the search bar feature in the first place.

I have updated to the latest software available and will update this discussion if this occurs again.

Hi kstater53,

The screen you describe appears to be related to the Search function described in Search from the iPhone Home Screen or Lock Screen:

"Search with iPhone

  1. Tap the Search button at the bottom of the Home Screen (on models with Face ID) or swipe down on the Home Screen or the Lock Screen.
  2. Enter what you’re looking for in the search field."

Are you able to tap that search bar as described to continue that action?

There is a newer version of iOS released than the one you indicate is presently installed. Updating per the guide at Update your iPhone or iPad and retesting would be advised.

If this continues, reach out to Apple Support directly to investigate the matter further.

Regards.
