do keyboard covers produce overheating in MacBook Pro mid-2012?

Are these silicone covers recommended? Do this covers compromised heating on these old but great machines?

What about newer MacBooks? M1 Pro M2 Pro?

M4 Macbook Pro Overheating?; Hey everybody! I got my m4 macbook pro base model last week. Everything was fine but for the last couple of days bottom part of the laptop is getting a bit warm. Nothing crazy but you can feel it while using on your lap. And it wasn't like that when i first got the laptop. There was a macOS update few days ago i am not sure that if it is related, idk.. Anyone having a similar issue? Btw, using very basic apps like spotify, browser, telegram, whatsapp, mail etc..

Mac Sonoma 14.3 Laptop Heating Issue Hello Today, I upgraded my Mac to Sonoma 14.3, and I noticed that my laptop started heating up. I attempted to disable background themes, but the issue persists. This has never happened before, and I suspect there might be a problem with the Mac OS affecting the battery. Kindly investigate the issue. I find myself needing to shut down my laptop every time it overheats. :( Initially, I thought it was just me, but I can see that other people using this Mac OS are also experiencing similar issues. regards Ravinder

The 13-inch 2012 non-Retina Macbook Pros, indeed most newer 13-inch MBPs as well, pull some of their cooling air in through the keyboard. To me, using a cover is a risk of overheating as well as the risks mentioned the article FoxFirth links.

This Apple article of overheating is pretty concise:

Keep your Mac laptop within acceptable operating temperatures - Apple Support

When I worked in law enforcement, we called that a "clue."

See the following Apple Support article for information on keyboard covers. The support article doesn't mention heat but does discuss another potential issue: Using a camera cover, palm rest, or keyboard cover on a Mac notebook - Apple Support
