FaceTime Issues

Has anyone else been having lots of issues with FaceTime? Especially Group FaceTime calls?


My Mom and sisters like to group FT most mornings and lately we've been having to use FB Messenger Video chat because FT won't let one of us in. It changes each time so it has nothing to do w/ settings or internet speed or whatever. We've done group FT calls for years w/out issue. But the last few weeks have been so bad we've stopped using it.


Also, everyone is up to date on their software on their phones.


So if there's something we can try to fix this - please let me know. It's been frustrating not to be able to use what we're used to.

Hey there rfeew,


It sounds like you might be referring to Facebook Messenger as well as FaceTime.


If you run into issues with a third party app not working when using FaceTime, try the steps here first:


If an app on your iPhone or iPad stops responding, closes unexpectedly, or won’t open - Apple Support


For additional steps to help with FaceTime calls: If you can't make or receive a FaceTime call on your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support

Once you have checked system status for Facetime Apple - Support - System Status

the likely problems are internet or wi-fi speed of one of the participants.

-All of you should use a speed test app (I use Meteor) and look for at least 5mbps up and down.

-Check Settings, General, VPN & Device Management for a profile -some ad blockers use VPN without you knowing .

-All of you reset your routers to factory settings. Check but it is usually a pin in a little hole.

-All of you do this...

Settings, Messages, Turn off iMessage 

Settings, Face Time, Turn off Face Time 

Restart the phone. 

Settings, Messages, Turn on iMessage, SMS, MMS 

Settings, Messages, send & Receive, Start new conversations from,  select your Apple ID which should now be there. 

Settings, Face Time, Turn on Face Time
