Prevent Apple Maps Resetting Location between Sessions

So sometimes I need to research some distant location, look around or take notes of places therein.

But I can get distracted and have to go away and come back to it a later time.

And the most annoying thing is that Maps resets itself to my current location upon re-opening the app, rather than at the location I was looking at before.

So then I have to go through all the steps again to get back to where I was. Is there some way, a toggle in Settings perhaps, that will prevent that happening?

I have looked but doesn’t seem to be anything.

And if there is no such setting then Apple really ought to add something to give the option to lock Maps to the last viewed location, with maybe an onscreen icon to take us back to the current physical location if needed.
