iTunes Keeps deleting imported music library - What Alternititves are there to iTunes for a Music Library Management for iPhone

iTunes has deleted my imported music library several times over the past few years. I use iTunes and an iPhone (currently iPhone 13 but the phone model is not related to the problem). iTunes kept the library with over 1,000 hours of music and dozens of play lists working just fine for many years (going back to iPod days). Starting about 2 or 3 years ago, iTunes on random days/months deletes the entire imported music libary and all the play lists reverting only to a handful of songs purchased through iTunes. I start iTunes one day and everything is just gone.

I don't have the energy to keep rebuilding the music library. Is there an alternative to iTunes for managing and uploading a library to the iPhone? Also is there an alternative

Note: I have zero interest in uploading my entire library to iCloud nor subscribe to a music service to pay for what I already own.

There have been occasions, after an iTunes update, when the Library appears to be empty (it's never happened to me). See if this tip from fellow user turningtest2 helps you: Empty/corrupt iTunes library after upgrad… - Apple Community. It has points that should assist you in recovery of your library and perhaps stop it from happening again.

But other than that, iTunes does not randomly delete songs. If songs become unplayable in your iTunes Library (as opposed to disappearing from your library), they will have an exclamation mark placed next to the title to indicate that iTunes can no longer find the file for that song. This is usually because the file or the path to the file, has been renamed, moved or deleted - but not by iTunes. If this is what has happened, we can offer tips to find them again. Turingftext2 has a tip on it (if I can find it), or I can offer assistance.

To summarise:

    • if songs are still listed in your library, but are unplayable (and some or all have exclamation marks next to their title), that indicates that someone, or an another application, has moved, renamed or deleted the file itself or the path to the song's file
    • if the entire library is blank (all entries are missing), that indicates a bug that causes the library to be empty, so check turningtest2's post about it

Is there an alternative to iTunes. Well, there is, but it isn't straightforward (one point is that it requires that you continue to have iTunes installed on your computer).

Nor do I (and so I don't use it).
