iTunes Music greyed out half my library

I recently subscribed to a trial version of iTunes music. When I opened iTunes on my Windows PC half my songs were greyed out where before I could play everything from my PC and iPhone. All of these were downloads from albums and other sources over many years. The "iCloud Status" indicates "waiting" with the cloud symbol next to each song (no strike throughs). Some songs from the same album will play while others are greyed out. On my iPhone 7 some songs are duplicated: one will play while the other will not stating "this song is not currently available...". Other greyed out songs state "this song is not synced across your devices," although I have synced through iTunes on my PC several times. I have tried numerous remedies from the community and cannot find anything that works. Why did a subscription to iTunes Music destroy my library? Can I get my songs back? Some songs that I added to my library state "Uploaded" or "Apple Music" under "iCloud Status." I have no intention of continuing the service so will I lose any more songs when I unsubscribe? I just want my old (as in 1960's) music back and would appreciate some guidance.

Hi fibnc,

We know you just mentioned that you tried everything in If your songs are grayed out, but there's a small note that we wanted to follow up on.

If a song is still grayed out after your music library is uploaded, import a new copy of the song into your music library. Then in the Apple Music app or iTunes, go to the menu bar and choose File > Library > Update Cloud Library.

What happens when you try that with a song or set of songs? Also, are you using iCloud Music Library, or are you manually syncing? You mentioned "I have synced through iTunes on my PC several times." You would need to turn on iCloud Music Library (not sync manually) and then follow the quote above.

We hope that helps with your question and take care!
