OWC Thunderbolt 4 hub randomly disconnects drives

I have the EXACT same issue as this previous poster. Anyone have any news on fixing a fix?

I have an OWC Thunderbolt 4 dock connected to my M1 Max Pro laptop. I continue to get random disconnects in which dialog boxes appears showing that I have not ejected my external drives properly. In most cases, if I wait 10 or 15 seconds the dock will reconnect.

I have tried every possible configuration and reconfiguration of what's going through the dock, have changed cables, employed "Cling-Ons" to secure the cables, all to no avail. I have also spoken with OWC numerous times. There too, no success in resolving the issue.

What I have noticed is this: The system can be stable for days. Then, suddenly, without having changed anything in the system, I get a series of disconnects, maybe four within a half hour. These occur if I'm at my computer or not.

Any ideas out there?

Thanks.

Thanks. I think I fixed the issue on my own. Turns out you have to turn off "put hard drive to sleep when computer sleeps". Turning off this fixes the randomly disconnecting drive issue. However, I am still experiencing random restarts if I leave my computer unattended for several hours. Guess I'll keep searching for the fix for my new issue.

Hey there rsands1,

Disk Utility can fix certain disk problems, like an external device doesn’t work properly. Here’s how you can use it to try and resolve this issue:

1. In the Disk Utility app  on your Mac, choose View > Show All Devices.
2. If Disk Utility isn’t open, click the Launchpad icon  in the Dock, type Disk Utility in the Search field, then click the Disk Utility icon .
3. Note: If you’re checking your startup disk or startup volume, restart your computer in macOS Recovery. See the Apple Support article About macOS Recovery on Intel-based Mac computers. Next, select Disk Utility in the macOS Recovery window, then click Continue. If you check your startup volume (Macintosh HD), make sure you also check your data volume (Macintosh HD - Data).
4. In the sidebar, select a volume, then click the First Aid button .
5. In the First Aid dialog, click Run, then follow the onscreen instructions.
6. When the First Aid process is complete, click Done.
7. Repeat steps 2 through 4 for each volume on the storage device.
8. In the sidebar, select a container, then click the First Aid button .
9. In the First Aid dialog, click Run, then follow the onscreen instructions.
10. When the First Aid process is complete, click Done.
11. Repeat steps 6 through 8 for each container on the storage device.
12. In the sidebar, select the storage device, then click the First Aid button .
13. In the First Aid dialog, click Run, then follow the onscreen instructions.
14. When the First Aid process is complete, click Done.
