Macbook M2 Pro Crashes When I Unplug From Dock

Every time I unplug my new (less than 3 weeks) M2 MacBook Pro from my thunderbolt dock, it crashes. I get a crash report after it restarts, but there are no particular apps identified as a potential problem. It does not happen when I plug the MacBook into the dock, just when I unplug it. All apps have been updated, along with macOS. My co-worker with an M2 Max MacBook does not have this issue, and he uses the same dock (he actually gave me his when this problem started thinking that was the issue).

Hey Austinhundley,

Do you see the same alert that's shown from the article here? If your Mac restarted because of a problem

If yes, try all the recommended steps from the article. If not, try to share a screenshot of what error or crash report you receive. Also, see if you can run Apple Diagnostics for more info about the crash. Here's how: Diagnose problems on Mac

If you see anything related to a kernel panic, see this user guide for some helpful steps: If your Mac restarts and a message appears

We hope this helps and let us know how it goes!

Best regards.

There are three ways to proceed:

One is to assume that you particular Docking device should not be plugged/unplugged with the Mac awake and active. Problem solved.

The second is to find and post your crash report and see if anything points to obvious other steps that can be taken to make this issue less severe.

Kernel Panic Reports are stored at:

/Library/Logs/DiagnosticReports

If you copy and paste that string into:

Finder > Go menu > Go to Folder

it will take you to where those reports are stored.

They are named with Date&Time and start or end in ‘panic’

If you find one, please post the entire report here, by using the “additional text” Icon in the reply footer (looks like a paper with writing).

Please don’t post more about 20 lines of any other types of reports — they are interminable, and any information useful for this purpose is on the first screenful.

The third is to post an EtreCheck (discovery Utility) report for readers to examine for obvious issues.

I have the exact same issue! MBP 13-inch, 2019, Two Thunderbolt 3 ports crashes when I unplug USB-C hub/dock! I've tried everything! I reinstalled the MacOs clean, downgraded, updated again and I realized then that the problem was when I disconnected the hub, not de OS, that's right! It's nonsense! but that's the problem, I searched hundreds and hundreds of blogs and pages and found nothing, everyone thinks the problem is Sonoma, I don't know but this weird thing is happening, now I have to walk around with a USB-C appendix hanging everywhere because if not, the MacBook dies.
