What is wrong with iOS and SMB?

I have an SMB share on my local network. Every device can connect to it just fine except iOS devices. Login is accepted but then Files app says content unavailable because of an "unknown error". Yeah that helps a lot in troubleshooting... What is wrong with iOS?

smb write access not working after updating to iOS 18 I use some Samba/SMB shares, mainly on a home server and also from my router (Fritz Box). Both SMB shares now have access issues with iOS 18. On an iPhone 13 with iOS 17.7 there is no problem having read and write access to the same folder and shared folder, but on my iPhone 14 with iOS 18 I only have ready access... I tried to set up the connection completely from the beginning and also set the minimum protocol version on the server side to SMB3, but nothing changed.

Files connect to SMB share shows error “Invalid Argument” In the Files app, when connecting to a network location. Why do i get “invalid argument” when trying to connect to my SMB share? This error is not helpful. If i mistype the username, i get the message that my credentials are wrong, so there is a connection being made. Thats the least it could have told me. A similar public share but different folder without a user specified works already, its the same devices.

Have you enabled "File Sharing" on the server that you are connecting to through the Files App?

Usually, this is found in Advance Settings of the network sharing in Windows.
