ipod shuffle (older) will not restore

I've tried (using disk utility) to restore my iPod shuffle. It gets "stuck" displaying "loading" for at least 2.5h. I'm at a loss for how to proceed. I'm using an iMac Apple M1 running Ventura 13.2

Actually, that (ref in link) is exactly what I looked at and tried before I sent this query. Amazingly, leaving my computer (and iPod) turned off overnight and then starting them both up solved the problem. Evidently the restore worked even though at the time it appeared to be hopelessly stuck. I did NOT need to repeat the restore, just turn both machines off and back on again. So it was a not problem, hidden from me by the interface.
