MacBook Pro cursor jumps while typing

Hello,

I notice that at random, intermittent times (such as when I am being coaxed into an update), my cursor suddenly jumps to another position in the document such as a different paragraph, or when I am typing in messenger, between text message conversations. You can imagine this is incredibly frustrating. Do not tell me it is because my hands are hitting the trackpad, because it is not a persistent problem and only occurs intermittently. It also occurs when I specifically take care to keep any part of my hands off the machine besides the keys.

Hello zolmsted,

Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities. We see you have some questions about your MacBook curser jumping when you're using it, and we'd like to help. Let's test this a few places, to see if this is happening in more than one place on your Mac. This will allow us to get the best options from here.

1. Try booting your Mac in safe mode, and let us know if you're noticing this: How to use safe mode on your Mac

2. Try creating a test user, and let us know if you see this there: Change Users & Groups settings on Mac - Apple Support

3. Still an issue? Reach back out, and we'll go from there.

Regards.
