MacBook cursor keeps glitching and is unresponsive

I have an issue when I’m using some apps and games that if I have to drag and drop something, the cursor begins to glitch moving and clicking all on its own. It stays like that even when quitting the app or game. Once I shutdown the MacBook it goes back to normal.

just tried it again and it was doing it on its own after a couple of minutes.

im running a MacBook Pro mid 2014 on Bug Sur 11.7.1

Hey there Oneash,

That is a strange issue to occur, and we'd like to help by ruling out some general details, along with better understanding what's happening:

  1. You mentioned this occurs with the cursor, but do you have another mouse connected to your Mac, or are you only using the built-in trackpad?
  2. When did this first start?
  3. Are there any physical issues with the built-in trackpad that you've noticed?
  4. Sometimes unexpected behavior can be resolved with a restart. Check out the section 'Restart' here: Log out, sleep, wake, restart, or shut down your Mac
  5. We also recommend making sure that all apps are up to date: How to manually update apps on your Apple device

Cheers!

Hi,

  1. This is an issued with the trackpad with no other peripheral plugged in. I am currently using a bluetooth mouse to carry on using the MacBook, but the trackpad fault still persists.
  2. this started after I updated to the most recent OS.
  3. There doesn't seem to be any physical fault with the track pad as it works up to a point before it starts to glitch.
  4. I have restarted and shut down many times and the fault persists.
  5. all the apps are up to date as far as I know.

No idea what is going wrong.
