Is there a way for two windows of the same app to be in different stages (without a different app in those stages)?

I want to group sets of chrome browser windows into separate stages, but it seems to only let me group windows of the same app in one stage. I've tried it with shift click and it didn't help. The only way this stage manager will be useful to me is if it has this feature. Otherwise I'll default back to multiple desktops.

MacBook Air 13″, macOS 12.4

I believe I found a work around.

  1. In Stage Manager settings, toggle Show Windows from an Application to "One at a time".
  2. Open all desired windows/files within the app. Note: To make this work in Chrome, all tabs must be opened as a "new window". (To make the next step easiest to manage, "hide" all open windows.)
  3. Click the app's icon on the Stage Manager side menu to display all open windows for that app. Click and drag the desired windows to the center screen which make groups of windows into a new stage.
  4. To access your different stages within an app, click on the app icon again and select a different stage.
  5. To add windows from different apps into one stage just follow the same steps and drag all desired windows into the center screen for the current stage.

Hope this helps!

Hi bzgirl0310,

Per Use Stage Manager to organize apps and windows on Mac "Thumbnails are arranged automatically and manually altering the layout of those thumbnails is not supported. Utilizing multiple Spaces may meet your need as described in Work in multiple spaces on Mac. You can also offer feedback on the Stage Manager feature at Feedback - MacBook Air - Apple.

Regards.
