In stage manager, when I have different windows for one app open on different monitors, clicking on the app opens it on both monitors. How do I stop this so clicking on it only opens it on the current monitor?

For example, if I want to open an excel workbook on my left monitor, that does not mean I want to open the workbooks on my right monitor! This behavior is killing my productivity.

Hi there luederm,

It sounds like you're mirroring your Mac desktop on your additional display rather than extending it. To change this setting, you can follow the steps below to arrange your displays in the way you'd prefer:

1. On your Mac, choose Apple menu  > System Settings, then click Displays  in the sidebar. (You may need to scroll down.)
2. Click the name of your display on the right, click the “Use as” pop-up menu, then choose an option.
3. Note: If you are using a Mac laptop or iMac, you must have an external display connected to your Mac to see these options. If you are using a device with no built-in display, such as a Mac mini or Mac Studio, you must have more than one display connected to see these options.
4. To set up some displays for mirroring and others for an extended desktop, start by setting up all displays as an extended desktop. Then, press and hold the Option key, and drag one display icon onto another display icon to mirror those two displays.
