Playing sound from external monitor causing coreaudiod problems

When I try play sound from my Mac on my external monitor it causes the video or music file to fast forward and the sound to be choppy. This happens with local video and audio files, Spotify, YouTube.

It seems to be causing an issue with coreaudiod in Activity Monitor, when I quit it the audio will play normally through the laptop speakers.

Then next time I change the sound to the external monitor I get the same issue again...

How do I solve this problem?

MacBook Pro 14″, macOS 13.2

Thanks for the reply but I don't think it's a problem with the monitor. The coreaudiod issue is a known issue for a while: coreaudiod Process Problem - Apple Community. I don't think it would be possible for my external monitor to prompt my Mac to fast-forward media playback. The issue is identical to this when external monitor is chosen as the sound output: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NLC7g8WB2b0

I was just wondering if anyone else expereicned this issue occuring when playing audio through an external speaker... and if so what fix they had...

Hey ddalton0,

Sounds like you’re noticing issues with your audio when it plays through an external monitor. If so, it sounds like the issue is isolated to the monitor, and not an issue with your MacBook Pro as it plays normally through it.

We’d suggest contacting the manufacturer of the monitor for further help with this.
