Activity rings ignore manually added workouts and won't close

My watch ignores manually added workouts in the Health App.

The added workouts (outdoors walking) are visible in the Activity app on iPhone – but the rings remain indifferent and won't close. I have included sufficient calories in the entries. All rings should close.

I am NOT cheating :-P this is for a day that my battery was out and I left the watch home as I headed to work. I was very active during the day but settled to just enter the walking as I new the exact times and had a good grip on burn – I just wanted to close the rings and be done with a perfect week.

A couple of other times when I have forgotten or left the watch home I have been able to close the rings by entering my workouts manually (gym, running or swimming).

The only thing different about this time is that I forgot to do it when I got back home. I left the watch at home a Thursday but I remembered and completed the entry on the following Monday.

I have tried to restart the watch and phone a couple of times, but it makes no difference.

Why are the rings not closing?

Is it possible to close them?

You can only affect rings if you add or delete the additional data on the day. Retrospective data edits will not affect earlier rings.
