Copying iCloud folder to external drive

I'm able to copy "regular" folders to the external, but it hangs up when I try to copy an iCloud file or folder to the same external. I still get the "copy" box, but it stays at 0 bytes forever.

What do I need to do to fix that?

TIA,

John

Salutations copythat,

If you move/copy that iCloud folder first to your MacBook Pro are you then able to move it to your external hard drive? Based on the article about archiving iCloud data, you are able to move files from iCloud Drive to your Mac using the following steps - Archive or make copies of the information you store in iCloud

Copy files from iCloud Drive to your Mac
1. Click iCloud Drive in the sidebar of any Finder window.
2. Press and hold the Option key and drag the file to a new location.

Thanks.
