Ventura DisplayPort issue?

MBP M1 (2019) with Samsung 49" CRG9 monitor connected by Uni USB-C to DisplayPort 1.4 cable. Worked perfectly under Monterey, beautiful picture at full resolution.

Since updating to Ventura (now 13.2.1) the screen loses the video signal at frequent intervals, turns black for a few seconds, then returns. This happens from multiple times per minute to once every few minutes.

Replaced USB-C to DP cable with an HDMI cable connected through an Anker hub and everything is fine. (MBP <-> USB-C <-> hub-> HDMI <-> monitor)

More evidence: New M2 Pro Mac Mini connected to the same monitor with the same cable, also running Ventura 13.2.1, also sees random screen black-out. Switch to direct HDMI interface and no black-outs.

If this were the cable or the monitor, I would have seen this running Monterey, right?

Seems like Ventura is having an issue with USB-C to DP 1.4 interface... anyone else seeing this?

Hey there Joe DiFonzo,

To further isolate this, test this in both safe mode and a new user account on your Mac. This can help us understand if this is being caused by some software. You can read how to do this in the following links:

Take care.

Thanks, but it's not software since it's a clean new Mac mini. All I installed was MS Office. Nothing else other than what came from Apple out of the box.

I did find a power saving setting on the monitor and turned that off. That seems to have cured the issue with the screen going completely black for seconds at a time. But again, weird, that setting seemed to have no issue when I was using the HDMI cable, only the USB-C to DisplayPort cable. This tells me that, for some reason, the Thunderbolt/DP interface is dropping the signal from time to time.

However, now I'm seeing random 'glitches' where small sections of the screen (about 5% of the vertical dimension along the entire width of the screen) flicker for less than a second. This is happening 1 to 3 times per minute.

I tried moving the Thunderbolt cable to each of the 4 ports on the Mac mini and it's making no difference.

I also tried reseating the USB-C to DP cables in the monitor, no change.

I also upgraded the monitor firmware to 1007.2, no change.

I would think this was an issue with the Mac mini if I weren't having the exact same issues on the MacBook Pro.

* FIXED *

The screen black-outs came back after the system went into sleep mode and was woken up again, so it mustn't have been that monitor setting. ☹️

Replaced the UNI USB-C to DP cable with an Anker 518 USB-C to DP 8K adapter and the DP cable included with the monitor and I'm running glitch free now on the Mac mini M2 Pro. 🙂

Not sure why the UNI cable didn't work correctly, it's spec'ed for 8K@60Hz and was working correctly on this monitor while running on Monterey.

Anyway, thanks for everyone who tried to help, I appreciate it.
