I am currently using Imoive 10.3.5 and it randomly stopped letting me split the clips in my project. I had just split a clip 30 seconds before this and since then I have been unable to split anything else. I have reloaded the project, quit out of Imovie, deleted the preferences and reset and updated my laptop to no avail.

Sometimes, for some reason known only to the digital gods, a particular iMovie project will malfunction.
Go to your project and do an Edit/Select All, Edit/Copy, of the media in the timeline, and then Edit/Paste it into a newly created project. Your edits will carry over.

Update it is specifically this one project, I have moved to other projects and the feature seems to work fine but on this particular project it has become greyed out
