Cannot Sign in with Apple ID on MacBook (Yosemite)

I’m not able to authenticate with Apple ID on MacBook Air (2014). It’s my wife’s device, I have noticed it runs on old system (Yosemite) and not getting updates. It’s not possible to sign in with Apple ID even when I’m resetting the password (it works fine on iPhone). I’m connected to Internet. Due to that I’m not able to sign out from iDrive.

Anyone had such a problem? Is it possible to reinstall the system without signing out from iDrive?

In the Apple Find My app was possible to remove the MacBook from the device list (it wasn’t visible in appleid.apple.com).

I had Yosemite MacOs and I got info that this login is corrupted due to two factor authentication being introduced when Yosemite didn’t handle it well. Anyway, I ran recovery mode and installed new MacOS.

You Will need to generate a verification key on another Apple device in order to log in if you have 2 factor authentication enabled on your Apple id


If your device is online:

  1. Go to Settings > [your name].
  2. Tap Password & Security > Get Verification Code.



If your device is offline:

  1. Go to Settings > [your name].
  2. Tap Password & Security. 
  3. A message says "Account Details Unavailable." Tap Get Verification Code.


Use the code you’ve recieved in the place of your Apple id password when logging in on the old MacBook

Thanks for a quick reply.

Unfortunately it didn’t help. When I’m entering the verification code, also it says the password is wrong.

Strangely, when I’m using a web browser (on Mac), I can easily sign in to icloud, but I cannot authenticate to iCloud in Mac’s settings. Of course I use the same credentials. It doesn’t make sense..
